The meeting
was attended by Yoshikawa Yoshifumi, Vice President of JICA (Japan
International Cooperation Agency), Ilkhomjon Abdugafarov, Deputy Minister of
Transport, and Jamshid Tursunov, Chairman of the Committee on Highways.
The parties
discussed the current state of joint projects and the issues of accelerating
their implementation.
In
particular, they discussed projects for the construction of a tunnel connecting
the Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions, the reconstruction of 37 km of roads and
4 bridges in the Samarkand region, as well as the renovation of 45 km of
highways in the Andijan region.
Special
attention was paid to the need to find optimal technical solutions, taking into
account the requirements of environmental protection and environmental safety.
Following
the talks, the parties agreed to step up practical work on the implementation
of projects and identify further steps for cooperation.
In
addition, an agreement was reached to develop proposals for the organization of
training and study of the Japanese experience on a grant basis in order to
improve the skills of road management specialists.
An
initiative has also been put forward to organize mutual advanced training
courses aimed at studying Japanese approaches to the design, construction and
operation of tunnels and highways.
