stated to the TASS agency by Alexander Tkachev, Executive Director of the Chess
Federation of Russia.
The 46th
Chess Olympiad will be held in Samarkand from September 16 to 27. The official
starting lists of the competition include the national teams of Uzbekistan,
India, the USA, Germany, and other countries.
Russian
national teams had not participated in FIDE competitions since 2022. In
December 2025, the FIDE General Assembly voted in favor of partially and fully
lifting restrictions against Russian and Belarusian chess players. However, the
issue of Russia's return to competitions as national teams was later
reconsidered.
Currently,
international restrictions against the Belarusian chess national teams have
been lifted, and they are expected to participate in Samarkand under their
national flag.
The Chess
Olympiad will be held in Samarkand from September 16 to 27. The national team
of Uzbekistan will also participate in the competition.
