The operating modes of the system are adapted to traffic flows:
from 07:00 to 17:00 - the green wave is directed towards the city center, when the main stream is moving to work and study;
from 17:00 to 00:00 - in the opposite direction, from the city center, to facilitate evening departure.
Based on the measurement results:
The average travel time has been reduced by 40%;
The time savings are about 8 minutes per trip.
According to the Traffic Management Center, reducing the number of stops helps to reduce the number of sudden braking and acceleration, reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and make driving smoother and safer.
Important: A "green wave" does not mean that all intersections have a green light on all the time. Traffic lights continue to take into account the movement of pedestrians and vehicles from intersecting streets. The system is configured for the main traffic flow, so stops at a red light are still possible. After switching the signal, the driver can continue driving and get into the green wave again.
How do I use the system?
No special actions are required from drivers. It is enough to move in the general flow and observe the allowed speed. Even if you had to stop at a red light, after switching the signal, you can continue driving according to the configured sequence of traffic lights.
These figures were obtained during off-peak measurements to assess the effect of the new scheme. During peak traffic hours, the travel time may vary depending on the traffic intensity and traffic conditions.
