Platforms that violate these rules face fines of up to 50 million dollars. Prior to these regulations, almost all teenagers and many young children had ignored such age restrictions. Since the law banning social media for those under 16 came into effect, nearly 5 million accounts of children and teenagers have been deleted or blocked in Australia.
