The bridge
has become the first roadway crossing point between the two countries. It was
constructed next to the existing railway "Friendship Bridge," which
has linked Russia and North Korea since 1959, Kazinform reported.
Simultaneously
with the opening of the bridge, the construction of the "Khasan"
border checkpoint was completed. Designed with 10 traffic lanes, the facility
has a throughput capacity of up to 300 vehicles per hour.
Russian
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted that the development of cross-border
transport infrastructure creates conditions for expanding trade, economic,
scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation between Russia and North
Korea.
The new
road crossing is also expected to serve the development of border regions and
increase the volume of transport communication between the two countries.
