At its meeting, the Legislative Chamber reviewed a draft law entitled “On Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On Establishing Medical Workers’ Day in the Republic of Uzbekistan’” in connection with the establishment of Pharmaceutical Workers’ Day.
It was noted that Uzbekistan has been implementing large-scale healthcare reforms in recent years, while the pharmaceutical industry has also been developing rapidly. More than 50,000 pharmaceutical industry specialists currently work in the country. The population is served by 504 pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises, 478 distribution organizations, and more than 14,000 pharmacies.
Under the draft law, the words “medical workers” in the existing legislation would be replaced with “medical and pharmaceutical workers.” It also proposes establishing Medical and Pharmaceutical Workers’ Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the second Sunday of November.
The proposed amendments aim to ensure consistency in terminology with the laws “On the Protection of Citizens’ Health” and “On Medicines and Pharmaceutical Activities.”
According to the discussion, adopting the law would help enhance the public recognition of pharmaceutical workers and provide them with greater material and moral support.
Following the meeting, the draft law was adopted by the Legislative Chamber and submitted to the Senate for consideration.
