In recent
years, the country has implemented large‑scale reforms aimed at protecting consumers’ rights through the
development of competition.
The law
introduces amendments and additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan
“On the Protection of Consumers’ Rights,” clarifying the legal basis for
additional quality checks of goods in cases where it is impossible to identify
product defects based on its appearance.
In
addition, the procedure and timeframes for the check, the consumer’s
participation in this process, as well as the procedure for reimbursing
expenses related to the check are established.
An
additional quality check of goods is introduced if defects in the goods are
detected after they have been sold to the consumer, due to a violation of the
established rules for their storage or use, or if it is impossible to determine
from the appearance of the goods whether the defect was caused by the actions
of third parties.
The
consumer is granted the right to participate in the additional quality check of
the goods personally or through their representative, as well as to carry out
an additional quality check of the goods at their own expense.
According
to the senators, the law serves to effectively protect consumers’ rights and
create a more stable and reliable legal environment for market participants.
Upon
completion of the discussion, the law was approved by the senators.
