The
incident was discovered on April 23, 2026, during the customs control of an
Uzbek citizen departing on the Tashkent- Baku flight. When checking the
passenger's hand luggage, customs officers found 24 gold coins that were not
declared in accordance with the established procedure.
In order to
establish the historical and cultural value, the seized items were sent for
examination to the Art Expertise Department of the Cultural Heritage Agency.
According to the experts, the coins belong to the category of cultural values
and have historical significance.
It has been
established that the gold coins were minted in the period from 1897 to 1911.
Their estimated cost is estimated at 219 million soums.
On the
recommendation of experts, the physical evidence will be transferred to the
Agency of Precious Metals at the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It is
recalled that in accordance with article 8 of the Law of the Republic of
Uzbekistan "On the export and import of cultural property", the
export of such items outside the country is prohibited.
