The
negotiations took place within the framework of the forum on the topic
"Combating transnational drug threats in order to ensure public health and
safety."
They were
attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan,
Lieutenant General Aziz Tashpulatov and Director of the Europe and Asia
Programs Office of the Bureau of International Narcotics Control and Law
Enforcement (INL/EA) of the U.S. Department of State Mark Terwakoski.
During the
meeting, the parties stressed that drug threats are becoming global in nature
and have a serious impact on the stability of both individual states and
regions as a whole. Special attention was paid to the issues of bringing
bilateral and international cooperation to a new level, as well as enhancing
the exchange of experience.
The parties
noted the consistent development of regional cooperation and stressed that
effective counteraction to modern threats is possible only with close
coordination of efforts at the international level. In this regard, issues of
developing modern training programs for law enforcement agencies, strengthening
technical capacity and implementing new joint initiatives were discussed.
Following
the talks, the importance and relevance of the topics discussed were
emphasized. The meeting became one of the most meaningful and practice-oriented
dialogues within the framework of the forum, and the initiatives put forward,
as noted, will help identify priority areas for further cooperation.
